VAT on your invoices

How VAT is handled if you are registered, and what to do if you are not.

3 min read

Whether you charge VAT depends on whether you are VAT registered. Mechanics Hub handles both, you just need your VAT setting right. This is general guidance, not tax advice.

Registered vs not registered

If you are VAT registered, add your VAT number in Business Settings and your invoices will show the VAT rate and amount alongside the subtotal and total.

If you are not registered, do not add a VAT number, and your invoices will not show or imply VAT.

  • VAT registered: add your VAT number so the rate and amount show.
  • Not registered: leave VAT off entirely.
  • Keep a copy of every invoice for your records.

FAQ

Where do I set my VAT number?

In Business Settings, alongside your trading name and address. Once it is set, invoices include the VAT breakdown.
